Shrine routs Mount Clemens 49-6, then handles Cardinal Mooney 38-7

Royal Oak Shrine beat Mount Clemens 49-6 in a game the Oakland Press listed as its homecoming, then followed with a 38-7 win over Cardinal Mooney.

Royal Oak Shrine has outscored its last two opponents 87-13, beating Mount Clemens 49-6 and then Cardinal Mooney 38-7.

Homecoming win over Mount Clemens

Shrine beat Mount Clemens 49-6 on Friday, Sept. 25, according to the Oakland Press scoreboard. The Oakland Press listed the game as Shrine's homecoming in a football notebook published Sept. 23.

Scoring details from the game were not available.

Rolling past Cardinal Mooney

Shrine followed up with a 38-7 win over Cardinal Mooney on Saturday, Oct. 3, according to the Oakland Press Week 6 scoreboard.

Other area private schools also won that weekend. Brother Rice beat St. Francis 46-19, Orchard Lake St. Mary's beat De La Salle 42-6, Detroit Country Day blanked Loyola 53-0 and Detroit Catholic Central beat Toledo Central Catholic 31-12, the Oakland Press reported.

The week before, in Week 5, Orchard Lake St. Mary's beat Brother Rice 48-20 behind five touchdown passes from Jabin Gonzales, Detroit Country Day beat U-D Jesuit 17-3 and Notre Dame Prep shut out Lincoln-King 31-0, according to the Oakland Press.

Detroit Catholic Central beat Toledo St. John's 36-3 that week, and Cranbrook lost 36-29 to Meridian.

In Week 6, Notre Dame Prep lost 49-28 to Traverse City St. Francis and Cranbrook fell 62-18 to Gabriel Richard. Among smaller schools, Parkway Christian beat Oakland Christian 48-26, Everest beat Atherton 37-6 and Lutheran Westland edged Lutheran Northwest 20-14.

What's next

Regular-season play wraps up this month. The MHSAA will reveal playoff pairings on Selection Sunday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. on the NFHS Network. District games run Oct. 30 through Nov. 7, with the finals set for Nov. 27-28 at Ford Field.
