About the Oakland County Journal
Hometown news for Oakland County, Michigan, with a focus on the stories that too often go unreported.
Our mission
Oakland County is home to more than a million people across dozens of cities, villages and townships. Much of what shapes daily life here — city council votes, school board decisions, public safety, roads and water — gets little or no coverage. The Oakland County Journal exists to fill that gap, so residents know what their local governments and institutions are doing.
What we cover
- Local government: city councils, township boards, county government and the decisions they make.
- Public safety: police and sheriff news, crashes, courts and emergencies.
- Schools: school boards, budgets, policies and student activities.
- Community: the people, businesses and events that make our towns home.
Our standards
- We verify facts before we publish and say where our information comes from.
- News stories report what happened. Commentary is published separately and clearly labeled as Opinion.
- We protect confidential sources.
Corrections
