A 20-year-old Hazel Park man is charged with three counts of second-degree child abuse after police say his 4-week-old baby was found with multiple fractures in various stages of healing.

Cody Patterson was charged Oct. 5, and his bond was set at $500,000, according to FOX 2 Detroit, which cited a Hazel Park police news release.

What police allege

Police were called to a Hazel Park home for a report of a baby with a broken arm, according to the release. Officers found the infant with bruising over an eye and pain in the right shoulder.

The baby was taken to a hospital, where staff found multiple fractures in the arms, legs and ribs, police said.

"All of the injuries were in different stages of healing," the Hazel Park police release said.

Patterson was arrested at the hospital.

According to police, Patterson told officers he becomes frustrated and struggles to cope when the baby cries, and he admitted to hurting the infant.

Charges are accusations; Patterson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Child in state custody

The infant remains in the custody of Child Protective Services, according to FOX 2.

Police have not released further information about the child.

What happens next

Patterson was arraigned on the three counts, according to FOX 2. The report did not include his next court date, the court handling the case or whether he has an attorney.

No other charges in the case were reported.
