Oxford's football team is coming off a nail-biter and heading into a demanding final three weeks.
The Wildcats, 5-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAA Red, visit West Bloomfield at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Oxford is ranked No. 9 in the Associated Press Division 1 poll and No. 5 in the Oakland Press county rankings.
A one-point escape
Oxford beat Rochester Adams 15-14 on Oct. 2 when quarterback Michael King found Brady Hasselbring for a two-point conversion with 2:45 left, according to the Oakland Press. The win came a week after Oxford's only loss, a 31-28 decision at Clarkston in a matchup of unbeaten OAA Red teams before a crowd of 4,900.
The OAA Red picture
Clarkston, 6-0 and 2-0 in the Red, has clinched at least a share of the league title. Oxford's hopes of a split run through Lake Orion: a Lake Orion win over Clarkston on Friday would let Oxford force a share of the OAA Red title.
West Bloomfield is 1-5 and 0-3 in the Red and lost 64-8 to Clarkston last week.
Remaining schedule
Oxford's Week 8 game on Oct. 16 has not been posted, as with most Oakland Activities Association teams; those games are likely crossover matchups set by final league standings. The Wildcats close at home Oct. 23 against Romeo, which is 6-0 and ranked No. 8 in AP Division 1.
